Neighborly Ways

Last night, our neighbors to the west hosted a "block party" of sorts - - they invited folks from around the township to enjoy their home-grown pork. Everyone brought a side dish . . . everything from home-grown & home-made (zucchini bread, sweet corn casserole, cherry cake, three bean salad) to very creative (a dessert made with Fruity Pebbles, licorice rope and mini oreo's to look like a giant caterpillar) to the storebought Mexican dip platter & tortilla chips I bought on the way home from a late meeting. I had every intention of making a lovely crock pot of green beans slow-cooked with a pork hock, onions, and cream of mushroom soup...but time got away from me again. It was a great time to catch up with friends, re-aquaint ourselves with the neighbors, and meet some new faces.
Dave & Laura are great hosts and I hope this is a long-lived tradition in our little corner of the world.

Fast forward to 7:00 am this morning and the dog is barking furiously, which wakes us all up (late), makes DD cry, and DH runs downstairs throwing clothes on with every step. It's concrete-pouring day!

Wanna share that green bean recipe? Sounds good, and I'm always looking for new pork hock recipes!

Have a wonderful vacation...wish I could stow away in your trunk!

Put frozen pork hock in bottom of crock pot. Fill crock pot 3/4 full of fresh green beans (washed and snipped). Add 1/2 an onion (diced). Mix 1 can of cream of mushroom soup and 1 can of water or milk. Stir into green beans. Salt & pepper to taste. Sliced almonds and/or french fried onions are a nice option.
